Your Questions, Answered

Straight answers to what comes up most before a Ryde booking, grouped by topic. Anything not covered here is one phone call away.

Common questions

Money, Quotes and the $50 Off

Is the quote really free?

There's no cost to have someone look at the job and put a number on it. The figure you get is fixed and written down, and it costs nothing whether you go ahead or not.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No call-out fee applies. The only number you'll see is the one on the written quote, and that's the number that ends up on the invoice too.

What does "$50 off your first service" cover?

Any first booking, regardless of job size, gets $50 taken off the total. Just mention it on the call and we'll knock it off the written figure before you sign anything.

How do I pay?

Card and bank transfer are both fine, paid once you've had a chance to look over the finished work. Whatever figure you signed off upfront turns up unchanged on the invoice.

Common questions

The Legal Stuff, Made Simple

What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?

Think of it as the circuit's reflex. Current starts going somewhere it shouldn't and the switch trips before that turns into a shock. Plenty of the older switchboards around Ryde were fitted decades before this became standard, and current rules call for one on every single circuit.

Are you licensed and insured?

NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C covers every job we take on, backed by Master Electricians Australia membership and full insurance. That's checkable, not just claimed.

Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?

Legally, no, apart from a short list of trivial exceptions like swapping a light globe. Wiring and switchboard work has to go through someone licensed, and that's state law, not our house rule.

What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?

Once notifiable work is tested and signed off, that gets lodged with NSW Fair Trading as your Certificate of Compliance. A copy comes to you, handy to have on file if you ever sell up or need to make an insurance claim.

Common questions

When We Can Come

How soon can you fit me in?

Standard bookings usually land often same or next day, and we'll give you a time when you call rather than a vague window. Genuine emergencies jump straight to the front of the queue.

Do you work weekends?

Saturdays and Sundays are on the books the same as weekdays. Anything genuinely urgent gets a response any hour, weekend included.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Total power loss, a burning smell, visible sparking or wiring exposed after a storm all qualify. If you're unsure, switch the circuit off at the board and call rather than sit on it.

How do I book?

A phone call to (02) 9134 9026 gets you a real local, not a script. We'll sort what the job needs and settle on a time then and there, or you can send details through the contact page first.

Common questions

Local Answers for Ryde

What suburbs do you service?

West Ryde, Meadowbank, Putney, Gladesville, Eastwood and Melrose Park all sit on our regular rounds alongside Ryde itself. A street between any two of these is well within reach.

Do you work on heritage/strata properties?

St Anne's Anglican Church on Church Street traces back to an 1820s schoolhouse, and the older homes near it need a careful hand around original fabric. Shared switchrooms and strata boards in the newer towers come up just as often.

Do you know Ryde's housing stock?

The switchboard tells the story before we even step inside. Post-war brick houses on the older streets carry a different fault pattern to the towers that went up around Top Ryde from the 2000s on, and the approach shifts depending on which one we've turned up to.

How local are you, really?

Ryde sits on our regular run rather than being a suburb we make a special trip for. TAFE NSW Ryde on Victoria Road is one of the spots we're past often enough to know where the parking gets tight.
